About MCIK
Learn about our history, mission, and the people who serve our congregation.
Our History
The Methodist Church in India, Kolar has a rich history spanning over 135 years. It was founded in 1888 by American Methodist missionaries who came to serve the large English-speaking community working in the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) — once one of the deepest gold mines in the world.
The original church building, a beautiful Gothic-style structure, was erected in 1892 and still stands as a testimony to the faith and sacrifice of those early Christians. The church was officially registered under the Methodist Church in India and later became part of the Church of North India (CNI) following the union of 1970.
Over the decades, MCIK has played a significant role in the spiritual, educational, and social upliftment of the Kolar community. We established schools, hospitals, and community centres that continue to serve thousands of people today.
Today, MCIK is a vibrant, multi-generational congregation with over 500 families, committed to the Wesleyan values of scriptural holiness, practical ministry, and inclusive community.
